All deputies are sworn law enforcement officers. Our Jail Division does not staff correctional officers. Starting wages are negotiable based on previous experience. We are anticipating more retirements in 2023 and 2024. Candidates will be notified by email of the written exam date, time and location. Deadline will remain open until filled.

Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

This position is under the direction of the Jefferson County Sheriff or designee. You will be hired as a fully sworn Deputy Sheriff, with full arrest powers. You will begin your career in the Jail Division. Transfer to the Patrol Division is based on seniority. You will perform all law enforcement related duties, including enforcing federal, state, and county laws/ordinances.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Starting salary and vacation allowance will be commensurate with your years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer.

  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20

High school diploma
60 college credits / Associate's degree
Additional Education Information
60 college credits within 5 years of start date, or (paid) full time experience as a civilian or military police officer.
