Position Responsibilities

The Police Chief works in a normal office setting; operates emergency equipment; works outside in all weather conditions and at a variety of emergency scenes, such as crime and fire scenes. The Chief operates emergency vehicles and works in difficult or dangerous environments. The Police Chief works with individuals and employees of the police and fire departments to include chiefs, deputy chiefs, captains, lieutenants, sergeants. firefighters, officers, first responders and support staff. The Fire Chief reports to the Police Chief, and the Police Chief attends Fire Department meetings and trainings as needed.

60 college credits / Associate's degree
Bachelor's degree
Additional Education Information
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in the area of Criminal Justice, Police Administration or closely-related field.
Completion of police executive training such as: Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute, FBI National Academy, or similarly recognized executive program is highly preferred.
