Position Responsibilities

This sworn position is responsible for the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work involves patrolling assigned areas, responding to criminal, suspicious, traffic and unusual situations as directed; investigating crime, gathering evidence, apprehending violators, solving problems, protecting victims and property, responding to emergency situations, completing appropriate paperwork and other related duties as required.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Any sworn officer hired to the rank of police officer under the lateral hire protocol will receive a vacation allowance and be placed in any of the four Hourly Rate Steps commensurate with their years of experience as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer. Years of service under the lateral transfer protocol will be rounded to nearest year.

  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification

  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
