Position Responsibilities

The City of Independence is a rural municipality nestled in a corridor between two metropolitan counties. It maintains ongoing law enforcement and community support, and offers a unique opportunity to provide positive policing and law enforcement impacts through engagement opportunities and police contacts. Examples of duties include patrol, enforcing state laws and city ordinances, responding to incidents, traffic law enforcement, accident investigation, criminal investigations, work adequately with other law enforcement agencies, completing reports, community policing, and all other duties assigned by the Chief of Police. Career advancement opportunities include, but are not limited to, investigations/evidence tech, multi-jurisdictional emergency response team, DEC officer, Instructor, FTO, School Liaison, and other opportunities for the right candidate. Residency of 15 miles of municipal boundaries will be requested by the end of probation status. Take-home squad program is in development.
