Position Responsibilities

Enforcement of federal and state laws and village ordinances. Operate, with proficiency, all police equipment & vehicles as related to the police officer position. Carry, qualify with, and maintain a firearm and electronic control device. Handles all initial complaints and investigations that are received and assigned. Assist with non-criminal matters, i.e. landlord/tenant issues and child custody concerns. Complete all reports, paperwork, and documents necessary to the police officer position, including, but not limited to, offense and incident reports, reportable and non-reportable accident reports, property forms, citizen contact forms, juvenile intake forms, victim information sheets, village summonses, traffic and parking tickets. Assist individuals with a variety of emergency & non-emergency incidents. Provide victims of a medical emergency with basic medical care, including the use of an AED and CPR. Patrol, observe, and monitor residences, parks, businesses, streets and alleys to check for criminal or suspicious activity. Conduct business/home security inspections. Communicate with victims, suspects, and witnesses to gather information regarding a complaint. Notification of parents/guardians of juveniles having substantial contact with police. Offer credible testimony at a trial or hearing regarding the specifics of an incident, arrests that were made, evidence that was gathered, or other investigation completed. Collect, package, and secure evidence. Serve warrants and subpoenas. Organize and conduct photograph line-ups to isolate a suspect. Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, work overtime or extra hours as required.
