Position Responsibilities

The City of Columbus is located in Columbia County and has a population of 5,500 people. The department consists of 1 Chief, 2 Lieutenants, 1 Sergeant, 6 patrol officers and 2 civilians. The Lieutenant's serve as the 2nd and 3rd in command to the Chief and assist in the overall management of the department. This includes administrative and patrol functions. Duties include supervision of patrol officers, scheduling, training, investigations, personnel matters and other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police. Lieutenants are uniformed, salaried, and work 2080 hours per year.

Other Qualifications
  • 4 years minimum full time sworn experience
  • Supervisory experience desirable but not required
  • Must be certified Wisconsin law enforcement officer.
