Position Responsibilities

This is a responsible position representing the Madison Parks Division and the City of Madison in direct public contact. Areas of responsibility include customer service, routine custodial maintenance, parks rules and city ordinance enforcement. Work is performed in all types of weather, over varied terrain, and frequently involves varied hours, including evening, holidays and weekends. This position also is responsible for cash collection and providing visitor's services to park users, including first aid. Work is performed independently under the supervision of the Parks Recreation Services Coordinator and general direction of Permanent Park Rangers. This position involves direct public contact, at times under stressful circumstances requiring the ability to mitigate conflict tactfully while maintaining personal and public safety.

Qualifications
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Good driving record
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
Other Qualifications
  • One (1) year experience which included contact with the public in the enforcement of rules and regulations OR 30 semester credit hours of schooling in the areas of Criminal Justice, Natural Resource Management, or Sociology
